I am very surprised by the low star reviews. My experience with Hound & Gatos has been amazing. Spouse and I decided to buy it after a representative of the company appeared on "The Pet Show with Dr. Katy." Our first cat passed away after 16 years and we adopted an 8 year old beauty who had been in foster for almost a year. She is a bit of an itchy cat and we decided to try out, something healthier for her.
In the beginning the adoption agency recommended what they gave her, Wellness. One that was on the more healthy side and we found at our local grocery store is Newman's Own Organic and it's something she loves. We would give it to her every once in a while, since at times she would get tired of the rotation of 5 different morning meals and 5 different dinner meals. She would go crazy over it.
Vets recommend to slowly build into the new diet. Our recommendation from the vet was start with 1 tablespoon of the new food the first week, two the second, and so on until it all becomes the new food. It helps so they don't get lethargic.
We bought 4 sets of two in order to vary the food in the beginning, this helped to let us know if she liked it.
Our first cat had a preference for food that comes in little cubes, if it did not come in cubes I would cut the pate into small cubes for him. Our current cat prefers pate, so all I do is break it down with a spoon and it ends up looking like stew.
As far as Hound & Gatos texture, it is just like Newman's Own Organic. I know from a texture perspective I can say we've always add a little water to our cats' food since it helps them with being hydrated. Our now 9 year old loves Hound & Gatos and interesting enough she has more energy (already being an energetic cat), but it's something we know does her good.
As far as itching, we think she might just be an itchy cat. We exclude seafood from her diet, but the reality is...she is an anxious cat just like her owners.
