I've owned many hamsters over the years and have unfortunately also experienced many hamster cages that were not up to par and resulted in looking for lost hamsters at night (which fortunately I was always able to find).
I got this cage a few weeks ago and am satisfied with how it is put together. The base is solid and deep and high enough for the hamsters that fling bedding everywhere for it to not come out the wires above it. The wire part of the cage is held down to the base by two very strong clamps, which even took me a little bit to snap together. The top of the cage was a little more difficult to initially get on the cage. When I first put it on and thought it was put on properly, it didn't take much to pull it off...and then I realized I hadn't snapped all the sides under the bars. That probably took me about 10 minutes to properly put on...and it isn't going anywhere now. It makes me feel better knowing that if it took me that long to put everything together, little hammy is going to have a really rough time, if not impossible, trying to escape from it.
The access doors are also good one on top and one on the side. The top you have to pinch two latches together to open (something hammy can't do) and the side door has a metal loop that swings over door latch and fits VERY snugly, to the point where you have to apply some actual effort to open it (something else hammy can't do).
The only thing I have to complain about is the wheel. While it runs and spins smoothly, it does not sit on the axis very well and causes a lot of moving around and hitting the side of the cage, causing a LOT of noisy commotion. I will probably be replacing that within the next week. Everything else is great, including the dish and water bottle the kit came with.
Overall, I am very pleased with construction of this cage. If anything happens in the future that I am not pleased with, rest assured I will update this review.
