I'm trying to steer clear of wheat in my cats' food and have moved to an all canned diet for them, but when you're on a tight budget, it's hard.
I have three picky eaters. Before this, I had a case of the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul brand canned food, and they would barely touch it after the first couple of days. The first can of this I opened was inhaled by my kitties, but after that, they weren't so sure. So I started what I'd also had to do with the CSftCLS cans, which is mix a can of Fancy Feast (the "classic" varieties aren't so bad) in with it. Makes it considerably more expensive, but all three of my kitties happily clean their dishes at every feeding time.
The move to canned from dry food seems to have made my cats healthier. Their coats are softer, they are more playful, energetic, and affectionate, and there are far fewer hairballs. My oldest cat used to beg me to turn on the water faucet every time I was in the kitchen, but since the switch to canned food only, she has only done that once in the past couple of months. For me, it's a success, and I'm ordering my second case of this cat food to try to continue that success.
