I got this for my buddy (well, for her kitty) after I bought a similar one for my pair of luvbugs. The difference between this and the one I got for myself is the matching bowls that come with the stand (I bought my bowls separate).
Her kitty would lie down to eat, and make a big mess in doing so. These bowls are just high enough for kitty to not have to "bend down" to reach, so he now eats in a normal standing or sitting position.
Although kitty tries to move the dishes and make messes, the feet stay still and the bowls don't budge. Even so, the bowls are easy to remove for filling and washing just lift them out. I think it's a thumb thing that cat can't and human can. There's nothing holding or pinning the bowl down, it's just heavy enough and the right shape I think.
The stand and the bowls are both sturdy and pretty. Very good value for price.
