Hi All. I have had an aquarium for many years and I am not new to the hobby, I currently have a 120 gallon show tank, 6' x 24" x 15", stocked with African Cichlids. I have had multiple sets of fry in this tank, have crushed #3 (I think) coral as a gravel base it is the smallest coral prior to being sand, but larger than this pellet. My fish LOVE the food, they go absolutely crazy for it. I have to feed them vegetable based floaters first, just to make sure they get a varied diet.
I bought this having used the 2mm pellet prior to this batch. I read the reviews, I didn't listen... The food is so small, that even with the cichlids constantly cleaning the bottom of the tank, shoveling coral to find the food, the food works itself into the substrate and makes your tank DIRTY! My nitrates spike every week to 80 ppm and higher, it is horrible it knocks the PH down with all the decaying organics, ammonia is a tiny tick higher than 0, nitrite is 0. The amount of cleaning that is necessary to clean up the food that floats under rocks, plants, gets worked into the coral is amazing despite the 40 babies that can access these places. Unless you have a sand substrate, or the time to gravel vac every three days, I would not recommend this size pellet. The 2 mm pellet worked much better at not finding corners prior to being eaten, as well, my crabs would clean up the rest. The fish love the recipe though!
