After my cat was diagnosed with urinary crystals, my vet prescribed this food to help clear away the problem. I was not happy over the price, but since my cat is young and a good companion, I grit my teeth, told myself she was worth it, and bought six cans from her and an extraordinary price and then went home to order a case off line.
The problems started before the case of food arrived. My cat, who is the opposite of a fussy eater, in a matter of two days decided she didn't like the food. When placed in her dish, she'd sniff it and walk away. I didn't think too much about it since by the end of the day she'd have eaten the recommended amount. It was about a week later, just after the case of food arrived, that the vomiting started. She'd eat and less than an hour later the food would reappear on my floor as a watery brown puddle. I called the vet and told her the situation. I was told to put her back on her original food and don't bother with the prescribed food.
Yet, there was all the expensive food sitting on the shelf. I had other cats, so I gave them the food. One had minor symptoms of urinary crystals, so I decided to let her benefit from the other cat's misery. The same thing happened. A few days later she was vomiting up the food.
Would I use this again? If I had no other choice. It does clear up the symptoms, and while I am not thrilled with the vomit, I would rather deal with that than the misery and possible death that urinary crystals cause. However, I would also take my cats off this as soon as possible.
Can I recommend this? Not willingly. It is expensive and it causes stomach upsets.
What would I recommend? I talked to my vet about putting my cats on a raw food diet. She gave me a few pointers and a thumbs-up. Do a bit of research and discuss alternatives with your vet. A raw food diet is excellent, but expensive to buy and time consuming to make for yourself.
