For more than 30 years, I used L & M mixes because they were clean and fairly priced. As soon as Hartz bought L & M, they did what all good corporate buyers do make sure that they compromise their products for the bottom line profits that benefit only their CEOs. Hartz replaced most of the good striped sunflower seed with the smaller oily wild bird seed in their parrot mix. Since I was unable to convince their QC department and "scientific" dieticians that parrots don't eat this small seed and it's also much too oily/fatty for them, I now use other brands. I've bred so many species of birds for 30+ years and still have many of my original birds that are now 30 years and older. They are provided a well rounded diet which includes seed mix, produce, small amount of pellets, and a good vitamin/mineral/amino acid supplement.
I also check with seed/pellet providers to see which country provides their products and whether they contain harmful GMO content, be it seed mix or pellets. I don't know if Hartz uses GMO content because I don't use their product any longer.
