This pate is moist and easy to mush up with a fork. It even smells good (which isn't the case with many wet cat foods). I go through a couple cans a week and keep the leftovers in the fridge, heating the food up for 10 seconds and adding a little water before serving to my eager cat. (I only add water because my cat doesn't drink as much as she should. If your cat drinks regularly you shouldn't need to add water before serving.) The ingredients are admirable for pate as there are no meat byproducts, no corn, and no artificial stuff. The first five ingredients are meat, which is what felines need. Crude protein is 11%, Crude fat is 8%, Crude fiber is 1%, Moisture is 78%, Ash is 2.3%, and Taurine is .10%

A couple of months ago my feline friend developed fatty liver disease. It was a horrible experience which required me to tube feed her (a/d pate from the vet) every 2 hrs for a week, followed by syringe feeding every 2-4 hrs for two weeks after that. After this time we finally (and thankfully) got over the hump of her eating on her own. During the beginning of her eating on her own I tried a little bit of EVERYTHING on the shelves of Petco and the natural food store. My cat turned her nose up to everything but the a/d she'd been eating (which is quite expensive, not readily available, and stinky) until I discovered PetGuard: Chicken and Wheat Germ. I bought this from our natural food store in little cans and when I realized how much my cat liked this I bought the more affordable large cans. Initially I brought it to the vet tech to ask if this was a good alternative to the a/d and she approved it. Though the vet did scoff at kelp in the ingredients, but I prefer my cat eating kelp over meat byproducts. I've ordered two cases of this from Amazon so far and appreciate how quick and easy it is to just have this sent to my door. It costs slightly more to order than buying from the local store, but I can't overstate the convenience of coming home to a case at my door instead of taking trips to a store that only stocked it half the time. My cat still prefers this brand and flavor to all else (I have 2 cats who eats any wet food so can experiment new tastes with the formally ill cat without wasting food), but she has also eaten the Fish, Chicken, and Liver kind when I was desperate and the natural food store was out of her kind. My other cats like all the other PetGuard flavors we've tried.
