i received this and it required no installation. It was well made and looked good on my hard wood floor.
The product is a little unstable on the hardwood floor (it slips) and it needs to be tied to the bed somehow so it does not slide on the slippery hardwood.
I had two issues which causes me to return the product. They are not necessarily inherent problems with the product:
My 18 pound dog didn't like it. It still preferred to try jumping on the bed.
the product spreads too wide from the bed and if you get up in the dark and want to walk about, there is a chance that you may trip over it.
