Actually, I don't actually know if it works because the bowl has never had any ants in it -at all. We have ants everywhere else -all types. Drop a piece of fruit and they are RIGHT there, swarming -scary. It's been outside since May with no problems. A little bit pricey (you can get a single bowl on their website for $20 plus shipping) and unfortunately they only have the one size. I use this bowl for my cats and found that if I fill up the inside with small gravel, I can nestle a smaller bowl inside that the cats are comfortable with. And the cats have never tipped it over -it's well balanced. For me, it's worth not having to throw out contaminated food and worry about creating bigger ant problems. I understand they did research when they designed it on how to keep the scout ants discombobulated so they can't find the food inside the dish. Definitely would highly recommend this particular bowl. Planning on purchasing another one soon.
