First of all, my cats love this flavor. TUNA, what's not to love? Both cats have CRF (Chronic renal failure) and I tried the perscription diet cat foods with low protien and low phosphorus. I got a cold stare and a cat "no thank you". My vet told me about feeding them a raw diet (see Feline Instincts web site for info) and they do like that most of the time. However, they race to the kitchen whenever I open (quietly with a manual can opener!) a can of either tuna or salmon. I checked the list of foods on the CRF website (Tanya's feline crf) and saw that this food had a very low phosphorus leval (o.66% on a dry matter basis). Not the lowest, but enough so that they could have it now and then. The salmon variety of these Culinary Creations is too high in phosphorus for them. I also went to the Hills website and saw that the line of "mature adult TENDER chicken, TENDER tuna and TENDER ocean fish (all "chunks and gravy" varieties) are also low in phos. (.57, .62. and .60 respectively. Of course I did my homework to find that AMAZON had all these and of course had the lowest prices. I have switched to the smaller cans because one of my cats refuses to eat leftovers. Anything that has been in the refrigerator, even if it is warmed up, won't be eaten, and he will meow loudly until I open a fresh can. (yes, I know). The smaller cans may cost a little more per ounce, but considering I was throwing away a half of a large can twice a day, I am saving money! Personally, agree with my wholistic vet: CATS NEED MEAT, not grains/fillers like those in the perscription foods. Since the phosphorus is the issue, give them a food with as low as possibe. Since CRF is a progressive disease, I have also ordered a "phosphorus binder" to put in their food in the future. (available at "Thriving Pets" web site). By the way, my cats are now over two years older since their diagnosis. In addition to these low phposphors foods, I also give them one Standard Process Standard Process Renafood 90 TabletsRenafood tablet a day. Now, go hug your kitties!
