One of our cats was constantly getting urinary tract infections. Anyone who has had a cat with a UTI knows that the cat will try to find a place to urinate that doesn't hurt (since they associate the litter box with pain). We went through several rounds of expensive vet visits, urinalysis and antibiotics...not to mention the urinating on area rugs, couch cushions, our bed, laundry, etc.

Finally the vet did x-rays and determined that she had bladder stones. Our options were to put her through surgery, which doesn't mean stones won't come back, or try a prescription diet. After a few weeks on the Urinary SO diet, her x-rays were clear and she has not had another stone or UTI since (about 4 years now).

I only gave the product 4 stars instead of 5 due to the cost. It seems to cost about $50 for 16.5 pounds everywhere from online to vets offices. It is worth the money, but Royal Canin is making it difficult for some people to keep their cats healthy. Many people can't or wouldn't be willing to spend that much on cat food. So many cats are dumped at shelters every year, and I wonder how many of those cats are dumped for urinating outside of the litter pan...and how many of those had UTI's or bladder stones instead of behavioral issues.
