After reading several snarky replies by ZiwiPeak rep, Kimberly, in response to valid consumer concerns, I have to chime in....
IF it were true that ZiwiPeak truly cares to include only the best ingredients in its canned cat food, then why do they put CARAGEENAN in it? Carageenan is a known cat toxin, and whether degraded or not, human grade or not, the fact remains that Carageenan can lead to cancer.
Studies back up the claims about this bad ingredient, so it's best to avoid any cat food that contains carageenan.
Worse is the fact that despite the studies that show carageenan is not good for cats, its purpose is as a binder or thickener, so this further shows that companies like ZiwiPeak either don't care, or are clueless (take your pick; neither are acceptable to me). For God's sake, omit the thickener! (and don't switch to potato starch or pea starch, as others have; those are also toxic to cats! Just leave the juices as juice!)
One must be very careful before falling for the marketing gimmicks that are now so common in the pet food industry. A lot of money is spent on hyping products to appeal to humans and to psyche the consumer into a false sense of security that by buying a particular cat (or dog) food, one is feeding the very best science has to offer.
Total B.S.!!! These companies only care about the bottom line, which is the almightly dollar, not our pets! And their "experts" in nutrition are obviously clueless as almost every cat food contains ingredients that are harmful over the long term!
