Our picky brood of 4 cats LOVE this food. They all agree on almost nothing. Normally, we feed Fromm Four-Star Nutritionals Surf and Turf Formula Dry Cat Food, 5-Pound Bag and Orijen Regional Poultry and Fish Grain-Free Dry Cat & Kitten Food, 5.5lb, but in a pinch we needed a quick Prime delivery of a reputable grain-free dry cat food, looked around, read reviews, found this on Prime. Bingo.

This kibble looks like small fertilizer pellets, smells not especially appealing, and appears kind of drier than most kibbles, so we weren't holding our breath. But they all ate up every bite in their bowls. Never happens with a new food. And, we thought, this won't happen again tomorrow; it was just a fluke. Well they repeated their performance and hoovered up every bit again the next morning. And they continue to love Epigen-90.

Thrilled THRILLED to have another quality food to rotate into their diets, since variety = the spice of life, right? And also a better way to hedge your bets for getting a wide range of nutrients. Also really happy there are organic ingredients in this formula -and no subpar likely-GMO proteins isolates, like pea or potato protein (this is only true of the Epigen-90 formula, though!). We also offer one small can of Peking Ducken Wet Cat Food Size: 3 oz, case of 24 each meal, and the cats are very happy, excited at mealtimes, with lovely coats. Please keep offering this on Prime!! Please, pretty please, Wysong, keep to this formula! ...Fingers officially crossed...

EDITED TO ADD: We no longer feed Orijen due to concerns about product quality and changes in the formulation. Epigen-90 continues to be a big hit with our cats, and they're in great health on it, too. Wish it were cheaper, but when you pay for quality on the front end, the better quality of life & good health over time saves plenty from big expenses on the vet-end of things. Anything to keep the cats happy, anything to avoid hauling us all over to the vet's.

apparently our 1 year old male Persian has a wimpy G.I. system or has a fish allergy. If we feed him normal foods (most have some kind of fish by-product) he gets the runs and atomic smells and gassy. After searching for a food that has no seafood (recommended by our vet) I found this stuff and tried it out on the cats. They did have to warm up to it, but after a few days they like it and eat it all up. Also, the Persian immediately stopped having the G.I. issues, but still occasionally pees on his sac fur.

We have recently switched again to a prescription diet food for him and it seems to have fixed that part of the issue.

Overall, if you have a "normal" cat (a mutt breed) I think this food would be a great choice as the ingredients all sound quite healthy...I wish this was available locally, too.

Shrimp Pellets Fish Food

Every day I drop these little pellets into the aquatic half of my toad tank and the crayfish go wild. The one that isn't a hidey jerk will actually run to the front and grab them out of the water as they fall. He's VERY excited over these little pellets, even though they're compressed corpses of his cousins, which, honestly, I don't think I'd be excited to eat were our positions reversed. I can't quite shake the feeling that these aren't the be all, end all of nutrition though, so I add some tropical fish flakes into his diet as well, but I'm not going to lie, he's WAY more excited about these shrimp pellets. My water is clear, and it doesn't leave debris, what more can I ask of a shrimp pellet?

A few years ago, my cats and I relocated to Germany. And while my four-pawed trio generally took the move in stride and quickly adapted to their new home in a manner that filled me with new love and admiration for them, there is one item now, several years later, still sorely lacking in their lives: Pounce Tuna Treats! For as long as we've been together (and in the case of the two females, that means their entire life), there has never been a better way to reward them or just show them my affection than by giving them some of these my cats loved them, and I knew that due to the treats' many healthy ingredients I was actually doing something good for my kitties in addition to making them happy. But Pounce is nowhere to be found on the shelves of German stores! My cats are not overly picky in their food choices; they willingly accept almost everything appearing in their food bowls. This is for the cats that want fish and the owner doesn't want to touch fish. It looks to be pure fish just kinda smushed up... sometimes once in awhile there are chunks. The cats cannot get enough of it. They know when I open the pouch. It grosses me out to see the little spines and such in the sardine one, but I guess they need all of that too.

Chances are if you are looking at Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance, you are looking into finding a quality cat food for you animals. I'm a firm believer in buying the best quality foods for my animals in order to ensure their optimum good health, especially since the 2007 pet food recalls from melamine adulterated food. Initially, when I purchased this food that didn't factor into my decision.

I had a long-haired cat who gifted me with hairballs on a frequent basis. A friend told me about this food and swore by it, claiming her rugs and furniture no longer suffered from constant scrubbing. I decided to give Natural Balance a try and was amazed at the results. I no longer have that cat, but did inherit another long-haired cutie pie who LOVES this food. I changed her food to this one a month ago, gradually mixing it with her previous food, and it somehow helps her body minimize the hairball activity. I want her to be healthy and happy and find the expense to be well worth it. This is brief blurb from their website, information that can be found on the bag as well:

Of course everyone has their own opinion and will look at several factors when purchasing for their animals. You and only you know your needs, but I find that this food satisfies not only mine (I don't have to invest in so many paper towels), but obviously that of my cat. I was using a perfectly acceptable organic food, but when I mixed this with it ... well, lets just say she likes Natural better than organic. I'm happy if she's happy and I'm not constantly cleaning up after her these days!

Note: This is essentially the same review I wrote about Natural Balance a couple of years ago, but my cat still loves it and I'm still buying it ... on Amazon.

In past years I was able to buy chew hooves at Petsmart. They smelled awful, but actually cleaned the tarter from my dogs' teeth. This was important as I had a dog with a severe heart defect who could not undergo traditional cleaning from the vet. Then Petsmart discontinued the sale of this product. When I found these chew hooves I had hoped for the same result and have been extremely disappointed in them. They shatter and splinter causing a health hazard for my dogs. I don't know if it is the way this brand has been processed, but I have had to discard the entire bag. Never again will I trust this product.

5 stars from the cat!!!! She especially loves the beef over the chicken. My only complaint is that some cans are kind of loose/mushy while others are appropriately firm. Also it gets an funky, ugly gray color if it sits out a while (covered). This is replacing canned Fancy Feast. She pukes with FF but not Iams and is finally putting on a litte weight that she needed.

PRODUCT UPDATE...ZERO stars. Every half case I got after the original shipment was just awful. I was not pate that my cat loves, it was mushy, almost liquidy, and a gray color right upon opening and now kitty hates it. Darn it, thought I had found a solution. But kitty gained a little needed weight on it, so 1/2 star for that. Willl not not buy again.

After MUCH research and two complete urinary tract blockages we discovered that our cat SHOULD NOT be eating grain. Grains such as rice, wheat, corn and gluten are present in a large majority of pet foods available on the market. Manufacturers like to insert grain into pet food to their reduce cost and create inexpensive calories. Grain causes alkaline urine in both cats and dogs. Alkaline urine leads to crystals and bladder stones and develops when an animal eats pet food with grains and fillers (high carb diet). Our pets need only meat, organs and water for proper nutrition and you are not "spoiling" your pet by feeding them an all wet food diet. Kidney failure is one of the most common diseases in cats and I have learned that I'm putting unnecessary strain my cat's kidneys by feeding him crap food. I purchased 8-10 grain free options for my cat to try out because it's very difficult to get an animal to change their diet once established. Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken was a clear winner with my cat Otis and I highly recommend it. If you think you can't afford a grain free diet for your kitty, please consider the $4,000 I have spent unblocking my cat's urinary tract when crystals formed (emergency procedure). Also, be wary of so-called prescription diets that the vets insist will remedy the problem, they are also full of grains and fillers.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The first thing I do whenever I get any pet treats is checkout the back of the bag. There are a few warning signs that stand out immediately for me about this product:

1 Ingredients are all grain or additives. Zero meat, only flavoring comes from byproducts or "flavorings"

2 Zero "Country of Origin" information. Lots of stamps about quality control and about how the company is called "of Vermont" but zero information on where this is made (note: "Distributed By" is not the same as where its made).

3 Very prominent "for animal use only" warning (ie: not for human consumption).

Taking these one-by-one -

Meat does not need to be in this item because it's not really the dog's main meal. However, quite a few dogs do have gluten allergies, just like humans. Generally speaking, quite a few grains are known to be allergenic to dogs. If you can stay away from processed grains, it's not a bad idea to do so. Unfortunately this does essentially rule out any "biscuit" type of treat for dogs.

This is a biggie for me. Many of your major pet food manufacturers have used ingredients from China or have made the entire item there. As we all know, China currently has a pretty bad reputation for... well... poisoning our animals. Most of your pet food manufacturers who use all US-based ingredients in US-based factories are pretty proud of this fact and will prominently label their products as "Made in the USA". I think that treats fall into a separate category from actual dog food, so the manufacturers are probably not required to post this information, but again, if it's made in the USA, why wouldn't you include it? Even when made in the USA, we're not always great about keeping the salmonella away (as the latest recall in Feb 2013 proves). Knowing factory of origin is a real bonus here.

Whenever things are labeled "for animal use only," it usually means that there are non-human grade items in the product. When you're looking at feeding your pet things like probiotics, Omega-3's and so forth, often the human-grade version ends up being cheaper. Since the human grade versions usually have to pass more stringent tests than the pet variety, "spiking" treats with non-human grade ingredients just doesn't make much sense.

So about the product after using this for about a week, I haven't seen anything significant with my pups (Malamute / Shiba). They don't seem to have any digestive issues or improvements, and their stools look the same. This may be because the grade of food I use is higher, and perhaps these were meant more for people who choose bargain pet foods, but I can't say for sure. Also, even after repeated handwashings, the smell of these treats were stuck to my fingers for about an hour.

We have a 2 year old King Cavalier. He has had digestive issues since being puppy. We've tried everything...5 different foods, both wet and dry...even was on Prescription ID for a period of time at the Vet's recommendation. Nothing seemed to work.

Someone suggested Taste of the Wild Salmon. WOW!!! Not only is my dog eating, but his stools are perfect in color and consistency. We were on Buffalo Blue, but that seemed to be hit or miss as well...causing many days of vomit and diarrhea. Again, when we changed to Taste of the Wildeverything disappeared...not more vomit, not more diarrhea.

Granted, it's like wine, some will like it, some will not. No need for negative reviews, but keep in mind, if nothing else works for your dog's digestive system, why not try it. We did...and we are hooked now...so is Bodie :-)

Both my cats, a 2 year old and a 5 month old, love this food! I have tried a couple of the Felidae foods and my cats have devoured them all. I prefer the salmon version, but it can be a bit cost prohibitive. I feel good about feeding my cats the grain-free Felidae products, and they aren't as pricey as others I've seen. I highly recommend this product.

I've bought this same water feeder for years now. My first cat has a running water fetish where he won't drink anything unless it's from a faucet. This became annoying when I was cooking and he'd jump on the countertops (not very sanitary!). The waterer was a big hit with him.

Then came the other cat...

I bought a new one (the other one broke after some time) when my husband and I went on a trip for five days. I filled it up and put it down by the other water bowl and immediately the younger cat( she's a playful 2.5 years old ) started batting at the bobber at the bottom of the bowl. This mechanism lifts up and down based on air pressure/bubbles that raise and lowers the water. However funny this sounds, she got water everywhere on the wood floor! She wouldn't leave well enough alone and it reduced me to putting it away.

I still rate this four stars as it really keeps the water fresher. If you have overly active or playful cats, this item isn't for you.
