I have been using this brand for years. However, the last batch that I bought from here in August was bad. The first can I opened looked kind of grayish white with a terrible smell. I threw it out and opened another can thinking it was a fluke. The next can I opened was alright ONLY because it was from a case I had already. The next 3 cans I opened from the batch with the same code on the bottom were all bad. I hope people who feed this food to their cats know it is bad and won't use it. The date of production on the bottom of the cans is 04/07/2012 and the code is KV2001 with a best by date of JUL 2015. I plan to call the company tomorrow to see what they will do. At least I caught it, but I have serious doubts about using this food again. Please use with caution. It should look pinkish with a salmon smell and nothing else.
UPDATE: 10-19-2013 I called the company last week and spoke with Hannah. She assured me that she would send me a new case to replace the case I had gotten that I found questionable. I got their package with only 3 cans of the salmon and 8 cans of some of their chicken which neither my cats can eat because of allergies. When I opened the new can of salmon which was from a different batch, it was spoiled like the others. I was so disgusted that I threw it all out. She had told me that sometimes "the vitamin mix doesn't blend right and can cause it to look funny". That should not cause it to smell bad, at least that's my thinking. Their quality control is nonexistent it seems and I will never trust this company again, which is sad because I have paid their high prices for years without problems.
