The problem with most hairball products is you can't give them with food or right afterward because they're basically kitty laxatives. Hairball treats are expensive, because you have to give the cats multiple treats per day. For example, with Greenies Smartbites you're supposed to give 12 PER DAY. One of those little bags would last about two days.

I have two indoor shorthairs, one of which has very fine hair. This means he had terrible problems with hairballs, and sometimes the poo would stick to his bottom. Then he ran around the room scooting his rear on the carpet. After getting up one morning and finding a dried hairball on the couch cover, I knew something had to change. Out of desperation, I bought a bag. I feed my cats dry food in the morning, and canned food at night. I switched their morning meal with the Nutro.

A couple of days after switching I did find a couple of huge hairballs (probably one per cat, but they groom one another so it's hard to tell.) After a month there have been no more hairballs or the dry hacking that proceeds them. Their fur looks great, with no excessive shedding. Poops in the litterbox are solid and have obvious hair in them, so I can see it's working. Best of all, no more butt scooting on the rug.

This food has a lot of fiber in it, kind of like Metamucil for cats. I think it works best at preventing hairballs from forming. It's less effective if your cat already has a hairball. If you are expecting an eminent hairball emergency, you'll need to give them one of the petrolatum gels to get things moving.

It's not a cheap food, but it does have quality ingredients and the results are worth it to me.

Pros:

No more hairballs.

My cats like it.

Also helped with poo sticking problem.

Cons:

Expensive.

Will not solve immediate hairballs.
