I have a Savannah kitten who's nearly five months old, and she needs to be on a grain-free diet since she's closer to her wild ancestors than most domestic cats. She eats this twice a day along with Nature's Variety's dry cat food, and we have never had a problem! I tried giving her other grain-free canned cat foods and they nearly always resulted in... explosive situations. A friend of mine has a degree in animal nutrition, and this brand was her top pickif you look through the food, you can find individual veggies (peas, pieces of pumpkin, etc.). Subjecting your cat to eating Friskies or Fancy Feast over this is like switching a human to a diet of hot dogs, pieces of white bread, and that lunchmeat with the olive and macaroni pieces embedded in it. The other reviewers are severely mistaken :/

Gives great control over larger dogs and is an excellent training tool. We used it on both our 90lb American Bulldog and our 20lb Beagle/Dachshund mix.

On the larger dog, we used just the handle and it gave us the leverage and control we needed to keep him at heel. After a few months of training he doesn't need the handle at all.

For our smaller, more hyper dog, the elasticity of the leash part allowed us to control him when he decided he needed to follow that scent RIGHT NOW and kept him from jerking our shoulders out of our sockets.

I can highly recommend this as a great training tool for any size dog.

Im not a vet or doctor or anything, but this stuff is must have for cats if your feeding them a raw diet like myself. They will be just fine and they dont really need this if you feed them dry or wet food because that food has most of this supplemented in, but when feeding them raw diet they need more then just the raw meet can offer when there living strictly inside, outside not so much. Get this if you feed RAW, end of story.

These Pill Pockets are a total god-send. I have two cats, one of which has to be 'pilled' twice daily. This has meant a horrible process starting with her being wrapped up in a blanket. Now, thank heavens, we no longer have to go through that procedure. I simply pop her tablet into a Pill Pocket and she eats it up. My other cat is beyond fussy: she won't even touch fresh chicken, salmon, cream ... none of the normal cat 'treats' we humans offer. However, she actually BEGS for the Pill Pockets, which I now give her minus any medication as a treat. I recommend that anyone with a cat or dog keeps a packet of these handy. And if your pet is super fussy, they just might like these as treats. In fact, I'm so happy with them, I have already placed another, larger order. The only 'complaint' I have is that they only come in two flavors.

I bought my first one at least 10 years ago -and I actually still have it. I also bought 3 more because they were SO good -now aside from the usual teeth marks on the edges of the doors and dishes, my cats have not yet broken in.

I had 3 cats at one time and each cat had to eat in their own room with the door closed -no big deal because they had all the amenities in whatever room they had been placed. Now I have just two (RIP Princess -13 yrs old, taken by Cancer). La Large One will steal whatever food is not secured so she and Cee Cee have their own separate rooms and their own Cat Mates.

With wet food, the ice packs are good for 14-16 hours maximum, depending on the weather -even with A/C, in the summer the ice packs will melt faster, so I sometimes freeze the 14-16 hr food in its Cat Mate dish before I pop it into the Cat Mate assembly, even WITH the ice pack in the bottom of the assembly (only in the summer)-the food WILL defrost before the door opens.

The plastic dishes are top-dishwasher safe (for me anyway). The rest of the unit can be wiped with a wet cloth to clean it.

The battery CAN fall out of its niche -so I would suggest retaining/securing the battery (AA battery) with a bit of mailing tape (AFTER it has been placed inside the battery holder) to ensure that it stays where it belongs and the kitty won't miss a meal or two. Try not to get too much tape on the black box (right above the battery) that contains all the moving clockwork parts.

Turning the dial CLOCKWISE each time you set it will extend the life of the unit.

Sometimes (rare) the dials will pop out of gear -I've been able to fix that by opening up the little black box (with the clock and gears) on the back of the unit but it is a tricky/delicate operation. I can take apart cars, so perhaps I have a little more experience in working with gizmos.

DON'T drop this unit and it will reward you with many good years. The hinges (where the top of the door swings up) may wear out before the unit does -I'm a great fan of Mailing tape-it makes a great emergency hinge, and seems to last a long time. The cats don't care -as long as the dish door opens.

IF you are feeding outdoor stray/feral cats (and I hope they are all spayed and neutered), I would suggest leaving the feeders in a protected area and remember that raccoons and other critters will try (perhaps successfully) to break into it and possibly harm the kitties as well. Just a word of caution on my part.

IF your catsitter is being entrusted to feed your cats using the Cat Mate C20 feeders please post the instructions on the wall or fridge where s/he can see them -both of my cat sitters had never used the Cat Mate C20 feeders before, so the instructions were extremely helpful to them (and my kitties!!)

I have been using Proteen for years, and I hope they never stop making it. My budgies and my finches absolutely love this stuff. All my budgies are female, for some reason lol, and especially around Spring time they lay the occasional unfertilized eggs. I love giving this treat to them to help them build back up all the vitamins and minerals that they lose when laying eggs. I would most definitely recommend this product to anyone with budgies, parrotlets, finches, cockatiels, and other small birds, especially if they are breeding birds, and laying many eggs. Give Proteen a try. :) I'll never stop using it.

The problem with most hairball products is you can't give them with food or right afterward because they're basically kitty laxatives. Hairball treats are expensive, because you have to give the cats multiple treats per day. For example, with Greenies Smartbites you're supposed to give 12 PER DAY. One of those little bags would last about two days.

I have two indoor shorthairs, one of which has very fine hair. This means he had terrible problems with hairballs, and sometimes the poo would stick to his bottom. Then he ran around the room scooting his rear on the carpet. After getting up one morning and finding a dried hairball on the couch cover, I knew something had to change. Out of desperation, I bought a bag. I feed my cats dry food in the morning, and canned food at night. I switched their morning meal with the Nutro.

A couple of days after switching I did find a couple of huge hairballs (probably one per cat, but they groom one another so it's hard to tell.) After a month there have been no more hairballs or the dry hacking that proceeds them. Their fur looks great, with no excessive shedding. Poops in the litterbox are solid and have obvious hair in them, so I can see it's working. Best of all, no more butt scooting on the rug.

This food has a lot of fiber in it, kind of like Metamucil for cats. I think it works best at preventing hairballs from forming. It's less effective if your cat already has a hairball. If you are expecting an eminent hairball emergency, you'll need to give them one of the petrolatum gels to get things moving.

It's not a cheap food, but it does have quality ingredients and the results are worth it to me.

Pros:

No more hairballs.

My cats like it.

Also helped with poo sticking problem.

Cons:

Expensive.

Will not solve immediate hairballs.

Our two cats love this cat food. It smells fresh (not rancid-smelling, as many of the popular brands ARE rancid)and I am delighted that no rendered slaughterhouse animals and euthanized cats and dogs have been added as "meat by-products" and I like that it is organic. We will continue to buy Organix.

Wellness is among the best cat foods out there. It is grain-free and it has ingredients of high quality. There are no meat by-products. My only caveat is that Wellness' products with fish are not so good. Quite frankly, cats don't eat fish in the wild, so their digestive systems are not designed for consumption of fish. That being said, this is a fantastic specific product. The meat is fresh, and I know my cat loves it. I adopted my cat (he is five), and within weeks his coat was softer, the colors more vivid and I began seeing markings and colors I never saw before.

On another note, I can't help but take a dig at one of the worst, if not THE worst, foods out there...Science Diet. Take a read on the ingredients. In doing so, you will the natural, very high grade, pure ingredients of Wellness contrasted with the low grade, artificial, even mysterious ingredients of Science Diet food. Hill's chooses the name "Science Diet" to lend it credibility that it just doesn't have. Finally, cats can't digest grains and soy. Hill's food is riddled with that stuff. Bottom line: stay WITH Wellness; stay AWAY from Science Diet.

My 13 year old husky/pyrenees mix girl is ONE finicky dog. I've used those big round aluminum dog bowls for her all these years and noticed as she's getting older it's harder for her to have to lean all that way down to reach her food. Saw this bowl on Amazon and thought it'd be worth a try. It elevates her food a few more inches off the ground which takes some strain off of her. Very happy that she accepted the bowl and with her usual defiance gets her dinner eaten just like always! :)

This is the handiest thing I've found for walking my dogs since I found the on-leash carrier for waste bags! With record heat in Texas (over 100 degrees for 17 days and counting), this is an absolute necessity. My dogs didn't require any "learning" period just gratefully lapped up the water the first time I used it. I fill it at night and keep it in the fridge so it's cool and ready to go. Also, haven't had any problems with "spillage" just slowly tip to fill water reservoir and to turn back upright. Great product! Highly recommend!

My dog is a 14-lb. cockapoo who doesn't eat a ton at a time. I was looking for something the right size, that is made of green materials, and dishwasher-safe. Fits the bill and doesn't break the bank awesome! Totally excited about this product and the dog ate all her kibble...guess she approves too. Can't ask for much more than that. Size is perfect for this size pet who gets about 1.5 C dry food at a time.

Nature's Variety Pride by Instinct 24-Pack Trickster's Tuna

Nature's Variety Pride by Instinct 24-Pack Trickster's Tuna Recipe for Cats, 3-Ounce Cans
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

This is the new line from Nature's Variety, which makes the Instinct line, which my cat really likes. This is a new line, with variants among the protein sources like this Tuna is said to be flaked, while the other is minced. That goes for the Salmon line too, one flaked, one minced.

Honestly, the tuna in these looks pretty mincey to me, but I haven't really compared the two.

The tuna inside is not the solid block of pate type stuff. It is clearly actual stuff, though it does seem mincey. It comes out of the can kind of oatmeal-level, texture-wise, but looser. You can also see bits of vegetable matter, but not entire peas or anything, which I prefer, as my cat avoids the peas found in other tinned foods. She snarfs all of this and licks the plate.

Seems very consistent so far.

No by-products, human-grade food. Places that manufacture pet foods aren't allowed to say human grade, but the meat and fish they use is USDA-level.

Made and sourced in the U.S.* I've found a few places and products that either source some ingredients from other countries, manufacture in other countries, or, kind of worse, say 'made in the USA' but actually source from the US, ship to China for processing and ship back for packaging.

*Nature's Variety does source their rabbit meat for both dry and canned goods from China they say so right on their webpage in the FAQ but not the fish and other things.

It's not cheap, but nor is it really expensive for the quality, U.S.-made foods. When you compare to the cheap crap that's like $.60 a can, this works out to about $1/can. The larger are cheaper per oz., but these are convenient if you only serve the amt. in one small can at a time.

The flaked salmon, which I've gotten a few individual cans of at the local pet store (Amazon only had the tuna in stock when I ordered), seems to have larger chunks of fish than the tuna. That's the only downside I've noticed could be more flakey.

Weruva Variety Pack Grain-Free Canned Cat Food (Pack of 12, 3

Weruva Variety Pack Grain-Free Canned Cat Food
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

This is an alert for anyone currently feeding a diet of Weruva to their cats. The short story: Weruva products gave our totally healthy, 8 year old cat kidney failure. He is now in hospital with CREA (toxicity levels) 5 times the healthy amount (his levels are 11.1 most cats dies before their levels get this high) and basically what would have been a long healthy life has just been cut short.

The long story:

My husband and I fed Weruva to our 8 yr old, healthy kitty for about 8 months. He had just had a very good vet check up the vet said he was an example of a 'success story' in diet (we fed a mix of raw and canned food, raw egg yolk supplement, natural vitamin supplements). The canned component of the diet was EVO. But 8 months ago we switched to Weruva from EVO because of concern over the levels of ash in EVO. For the first 6 months we fed half Weruva (a mix of all varieties) and half Stella and Chewy's raw patties (which we've done for a long time). He seemed to be doing well, although seemed a little bit malnourished, like he wasn't getting all the nutrients he needed (we kept finding him licking the cast iron pan on the stove, for e.g. we now know he was becoming anemic, and was probably licking the pan for iron). We realize now that this was because the food was having an adverse effect on his kidneys, so he wasn't absorbing all the nutrients he should be. We took him to the vet, and got him tested. All was okay, except his kidney values were a little high his CREA and BUN especially. We brought him in for a urine sample a month later. His urine tested well, highly concentrated. Here's what went wrong we ran out of the Stella & Chewy patties, & they're not easy to get in our neighborhood so we stopped feeding them to him for a while. We were stressed out in our jobs and (we are kicking ourselves) didn't make time to pick up the patties. So he began an ONLY Weruva diet. At the same time, we were so busy we needed to order from wag.com, so we ordered Weruva in bulk. The only kinds they had in bulk? The seafood kinds. Mack n Jack, Polynesian BBQ, and Asian Fusion. All of these contain the artificial "vitamin K" supplement menadione sodium bisulfate, and have very high phosphorus levels. It is also NOT good to feed your cat only seafood. But we only did this for THREE weeks.

What happened next? Within 2 3 weeks of being on the only Weruva diet major kidney failure symptoms started. He stopped eating all the food on his plate, but he was begging for food. In the last week he was thirsty all the time. His haunches became stooped. In the 3rd week we finally realized something was wrong (we are kicking ourselves, again, that it took us so long to realize this). We took him to the vet as soon as possible, and that's when we found out he had 80% 90% kidney failure. The vet told us we should put him down, or opt for expensive emergency therapy we opted for the therapy, and thankfully his levels are dropping, but he may not live much more than a few months longer.

Meanwhile, we thought we should warn our good friends who were also feeding their cat the Weruva-only diet. As soon as we realized what had happened we got in contact with these friends who we hadn't seen in a long time (they'd just had a baby). Sadly, they reported that their also young (younger than our cat) kitty had liver disease he had just been diagnosed. They too had stopped feeding their cat Weruva.

How could this happen to very healthy, active, young cats who were apparently eating the healthiest diet possible? We're not sure, but we're sure it's related to this food. NOTHING else changed in our cat's life, and just before he went on the all Weruva diet he had had a clean bill of health. We think the answer might be related to Menadione Sodium Bisulfate, which quickly damaged our kitty's organs, in tandem with the very high phosphorus levels.

Menadione Sodium Bisulfate is the only Vitamin K supplement that AAFCO approves, but it's safety for pets is "not known," (although many people are of the opinion that is is highly toxic for pets), it is known to be toxic (and fatal) to humans. Several experts consider that it is dangerous for many of the major organs, including kidneys, liver. Here are some linke for more info:some of the negative effects of menadione are...

* causes cytotoxicity in liver cells

* damages the natural vitamin K cycle

* causes hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia, not just linked to large doses

* is directly toxic in high doses (vomiting, albuminuria), unlike natural vitamin K

* has never been researched or specifically approved for long term use, such as in pet food

* FDA has banned synthetic vitamin K from over-the-counter supplements because of its high toxicityA report at Oregon State University that mentions mendione toxicityHere Weruva owner David Forman explains why Weruva chooses to use Menadione:Note that at the end of his comment, he states: "if we didn't put it in we would have to label the cans 'for intermittent feeding only'," because AAFCO requires the supplement to be in seafood cans if it's labeled a 'complete food.'

It seems to us that that's the real reason Weruva choose to keep menadione in their products. If we had seen an 'intermittent feeding only label, we would have fed our cat Weruva less often (and he would not be in hospital right now though perhaps in time the same problem would have developed.) That is what Weruva wants to avoid people using their cat food less often. The ethical choice would have been to leave out the menadione and label their food correctly, while taking up with AAFCO its lack of safe Vitamin K supplement approvals.

One more note we've spent over $500 on Weruva food in the past 8 months. And our hospital bill for this weekend, for our cat that may not survive? $2500 and counting. It's going to take months for us to recover from this financially, let alone the pain of losing our beloved pet to the greed of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Meanwhile Weruva hasn't lost any funds and continues to add a harmful ingredient to its cat food.

We're pretty sure there's going to be an epidemic of Weruva-food related illnesses. As the product is on the market for a longer time, more and more cats are going to develop organ damage as a result of the diet.

Why do pet food manufacturers (including these so-called 'organic' food manufacturers) and AAFCO have to play the waiting game with consumers, waiting until enough pets die until they are forced to change their ingredients and regulations?
