Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program So...dogs and cats can't digest grains and starches nearly as easily as people. These little chews are to help with daily digestion, but, the main ingredients are: maltodextrin (an easy to digest starch), soy lecithin, oat flour (grain), barley flour (grain), rice flour (grain), rye flour (grain), oat meal (grain), natural duck flavor...
I'm not exactly an expert on digestion in a feline guts, but their intestines are shorter than humans which makes digestion longer and more difficult, and without enzymes to break down the carbs and starches, their pancreas gets the extra workout to produce enzymes to digest the stuff. With that said, my hunch is that the maker decided to throw those starch/grain ingredients in order to get some of the other nutrients (listed on the back of the package), without thinking the whole thing through.
But getting nutrients to help digestion from components that cats can't digest easily feels kind of wrong. Do your own research and hopefully prove me wrong, but...my cat loves these, I'll let him have the rest, but if he had some kind of gut problem, I wouldn't be grabbing at these "supplements."
