I bought this feeder to control my cat's constant begging for food at 530AM, and to feed him lunch while I'm out at work. I was pleased that the feeder can be programed to feed him in the early morning so I don't have to get up, and during the day so I don't worry about him being hungry.
HOWEVER, my cat (and many others' cats according to other online blogs I've researched) can outsmart it. The feeder is way too sensitive. If you accidentally bump it with your foot, food comes out. If your cat paws at it, food comes out. If your cat is smart, all he or she has to do is stick a paw up into the dispenser and food comes out. I can't tell you how often I find the feeder in other locations because my cat has pawed at it so much that he moves it across the floor. And how could it be so easy, you ask? It's because the wheel that dispenses the food is made of flimsy, flexible plastic-paper.
Worse still, the food that falls out during these times is the food that was supposed to be for the next scheduled dispense. So, whenever my cat decides to hack the machine after breakfast, his lunch comes out. Then, at the time his lunch was supposed to dispense, nothing comes out because it's now empty, and then my cat proceeds to cry for the remainder of the afternoon.
If cats can outsmart a programmable feeder, what's the point of having it?
