My grandfather turned 90 in 2012, and said that he didn't want any presents. He wanted a cat. So off we went to the local animal shelter, and there we fell in love with a large, eight-year old black and white kitty who just so happened to have a few extra toes. We brought her home and she immediately became part of the family. So you can understand why it was terribly distressing to learn, a few days later, that she was suffering from kidney disease.
The first vet said there was not much to be done, and we should try an expensive, low-protein prescription cat food, but that she probably wouldn't eat it. The second vet was much more helpful, going through all of Babe's tests with us and discussing treatment options. We settled on a diet that included PetGuard. I couldn't find it right away, so I wrote to the company asking for suggestions about local stores. Within a week, they'd shipped me a large box containing cans of every flavor they made, as well as vitamins and treats -free of charge. WOW!
We settled on two flavors that Babe loves, one of which is Premium Feast. Her kidney disease remains under control and her tests have been good over the past year. Her appetite is excellent, her coat is glossy, and her energy level is high. She is a beautiful and playful cat.
I know we may not have Babe with us for as long as we want, but my grandfather and I understand that life is not permanent. We enjoy the time we do have and make every day as special as it can be. I'm so glad to have found a food that the cat really likes and that seems to be working for her.
