My female cat Maia, came down with kidney problems and didn't care for the prescription diet and felt it was not doing her any good. I was going to one vet after another with no results. So I started reading Dr. Petcairn's book on the Natural Cat and looking for holistic approach with her kidney issues. I am not fond of the raw diet and subcutaneous fluids for she was dehydrated. My cat felt weird from getting subcutaneous fluids and I felt it was not natural. So, I did a lot of research on kidney failure in cats and found a vetri-science renal supplement for cats. He also told me about Renafood-a kidney supplenment to help to make the kidney function better. The human renafood by standard process is better than the feline version. When cats have kidney issues, they also have high blood pressure that causes blindness and hemmorhage in cats. Most vets do not check cats blood pressure and that is why most cats die from this and not always from kidney failure. I give Maia Renafood once a day with vetri-science feline renal supplement twice a day along with blood pressure pill. She did well on this and got a clean bill of health from my homeopathic vet. I feed her holistic wet cat food along with some dry food low in phosphorous. Phosphorous in cat food is main culprit in giving cats kidney failure, not the protein!!!!! I highly recommend the vetri-science renal supplement--it helps my cat retain fluids in her body without subcutaneous fluids.
