My first impression of this cat bowl is that it is smaller than I expected. After measuring it, I was right.
The first measurment, physical dimension, was obvious ... the manufacturer quotes 6.1 inches, which is correct for the diameter from the far extreme edge of the rubber trim. USABLE area, is much less 2.5 inches at the bottom of the bowl and 4 inches at the very top of the bowl.
The other measurement, however, the capacity of the bowl, is entirely wrong. The manufacturer quotes 8 ounces, however if I filled the bowl to the very top of the rim the maximum it holds is 6 ounces. In practical terms, the dish comfortably holds one standard size of canned cat food.
Other than that I was surprised at the quality for the price. The red finish is hard, smooth and very durable looking. It is very easy to clean. On the underside is a statement that it is made of stainless steel. While I will probably never know for sure because the red finish covers the entire surface, it is nice to know that if it ever did get scratched it probably wouldn't rust.
The rubber trim covers just the rim, not the entire bottom, and is easily removable for cleaning. It does a great job keeping the dish from slipping.
Both of my cats took to eating from the dish immediately and seem to like it.
This bowl seems much more sanitary than plastic, and is quite attractive. The weight of the metal is substantial and overall it is a great bargain at about five bucks. I wish I could have given it 5 stars but the misleading description prevents me from doing so.
If you know beforehand what the real capacity of this bowl is, and you are okay with that, don't hesitate to buy it. There really are no negatives.
