Loved using this in our chicken brooder. Minimal dust, soft, and very compact in the bag. You get a good bang for the buck. I found pine shavings in bulk at our local farm store, but they did cause dustalthough cheaper. So while the chicks are young or you have a critter in the house I would definitely recommend
