I think for the money, this is a good food choice. It doesn't have any corn, wheat or soy as fillers, and no by-products, although it does contain rice and barley. If you are concerned about grain you may want to avoid this, although rice is way down the list of ingredients--I think it's the seventh ingredient. Also there is some barley, and potatoes and other vegetables. I buy the hairball version for my boy, since he has had issues with hair ingestion even though he's short-haired. He seems to digest this very well, no throwing up, it gives him nice firm stools about one per day or every other day. This makes cleaning the litterbox MUCH easier. The main reason I rotated away from this food was that I was worried he was allergic to an ingredient. His ear discharge really increased and he was constantly scratching at his ears (it's not mites). So, I tried Natural Balance Venison & Pea and Duck & Pea formulas, which are supposed to be great for allergies. Both of those started him onto a spiral of diarrhea and even vomiting. It was hardly what I expected! So now I'm back to Chicken soup, itchy ears seems like the lesser of two evils and a product called Zymox seems to have relieved the discharge somewhat. I'll be rotating this with several flavors of Eagle Pack Holisitic that I know he can digest well.
