I only feed my cats this food. It has protein, fruits, veggies instead of the crappy corn based foods out there. It seems to fill them up quicker and they are not hungry as much.

I am very surprised by the low star reviews. My experience with Hound & Gatos has been amazing. Spouse and I decided to buy it after a representative of the company appeared on "The Pet Show with Dr. Katy." Our first cat passed away after 16 years and we adopted an 8 year old beauty who had been in foster for almost a year. She is a bit of an itchy cat and we decided to try out, something healthier for her.

In the beginning the adoption agency recommended what they gave her, Wellness. One that was on the more healthy side and we found at our local grocery store is Newman's Own Organic and it's something she loves. We would give it to her every once in a while, since at times she would get tired of the rotation of 5 different morning meals and 5 different dinner meals. She would go crazy over it.

Vets recommend to slowly build into the new diet. Our recommendation from the vet was start with 1 tablespoon of the new food the first week, two the second, and so on until it all becomes the new food. It helps so they don't get lethargic.

We bought 4 sets of two in order to vary the food in the beginning, this helped to let us know if she liked it.

Our first cat had a preference for food that comes in little cubes, if it did not come in cubes I would cut the pate into small cubes for him. Our current cat prefers pate, so all I do is break it down with a spoon and it ends up looking like stew.

As far as Hound & Gatos texture, it is just like Newman's Own Organic. I know from a texture perspective I can say we've always add a little water to our cats' food since it helps them with being hydrated. Our now 9 year old loves Hound & Gatos and interesting enough she has more energy (already being an energetic cat), but it's something we know does her good.

As far as itching, we think she might just be an itchy cat. We exclude seafood from her diet, but the reality is...she is an anxious cat just like her owners.

These spoons are simple but really great for dealing with dog food. The shape of the spoon gets every bit of my very expensive wet food from the cans, the handle is the perfect length, and they're sturdy enough to mix together dry and wet food. I got two different colors to switch off day to day, and they seem very durable to last over time. The durability, coupled with the very reasonable price (don't pay more for the black one, no reason to at all), makes these a great bargain. I use these every day, hand wash them, and think they'll last for years. Recommended.

The Feline Organizational Committee in my house has informed its employee that this is an acceptable product. They previously complained about everything except Natural Value with Albacore and this one. You do not want to be in this house when they are complaining.

As for my research, so far as I know there are no additives. This company does not fool around with the product or try to make it pretty for me or stretch it with inedible filler. They provide real fish and real crab (in a small amount of clear fishy jelly). That's fine with me. I don't want additives that make things colorful and eventually kill my cats. I don't want to look at it, they don't see in color, and all they want to do is smell it and eat it. And when they are happy, I am sooo relieved. Keep up the good work!

Several years ago, Kaytee Fiesta Ferret Food contained dried fruit. Dried fruit ferrets are incapable of digesting, which offered no nutritional value and posed choking and intestinal hazards.

With the redesigned Kaytee Fiesta Gourmet Ferret Food, they've at least banished the fruit to the garbage bin where it belongs--but this still ain't good food. Ferrets are obligate carnivores. An ideal ferret diet has as much meat and as little grain as possible, which is achieved by one high-end ferret food (entirely meat-based kibble) and admirably approached by several other premium ferret foods (meat-heavy blends with a minimal amount of corn).

Kaytee's offering falls into neither of these categories, being absolutely lousy with cheap fillers. Most foods use corn as a filler. If you read the ingredients list on the Kaytee, on the other hand, seemingly every other ingredient is a filler: Ground corn, rice, dried beet pulp, soy flour, corn gluten meal, oat meal, wheat middlings, dehulled soybean meal, ground wheat... And that's just the first 9 fillers.

If you want a happy, healthy ferret, this is not the food for you. On a quality ferret diet, your ferret will eat less, be happier and healthier, and make less stinky, erm, "presents" for you.

I initially tried a few brands of prepared raw cat food, including this one before eventually settling on making my own raw cat food. I started out with prepared raw foods because i thought it would be hard to make my own. I was wrong it's not hard at all. My cats are now fully transitioned to raw food and they love it very much. But this food is a good choice to start if you simply want to give raw food a try. It is neat not, messy and you dont have to worry about measuring and mixing cat recipes.

All in all my cats never really ate this product unless i cooked it or mixed it with a commercial brand that they liked. But this says nothing about the product itself because cats are notoriously picky eaters and at the time they were also not happy about me switching their food and introducing them to raw food for the first time. My rating is based on the cost not the quality of the product.

I realize that this brand is pasturized, farm raised, organic chickens ... and that probaby accounts for the price ... if all of that is important to you then this product is a great choice for the price. But i personally find it too expensive to feed a cat this way long term.

I have since discovered that buying powdered cat food supplements plus raw ground meat at my local supermarket is a much cheaper alternative to buying the meat already prepared. Ground turkey in Kroger is $1.50 per pound and the supplements are an additional $3 (per pound of meat) compare that with this product which is 1.2lbs for $7.50 + s/h.

So that works out to a cost of $4.50 per pound for me to make my own cat food vs. ($7.50 + shipping) per pound to buy this prepared stuff. Also consider that buying 10 cans of 3.5oz premium canned cat food would cost $6.00

(1 lb of raw meat feeds my 2 adult male cats for 3-4 days, much cheaper than buying "premium" commercial brands of wet cat food which are laden with preservatives and have very little real meat in them)

NOTE: If you buy ground meat in the supermarket for your cat ... you MUST get a powdered supplement for cats to mix in the meat because the ground meat found in supermarkets is meant for human consumption, so it doesnt have the vital bone and organ meat that a cat needs. Adding supplements provide the added nutrition a cat would get from organs and bone. (I was not able to find these supplements for making raw food in local pet stores i had to buy them online.) And mixing the supplements and meat for the cat is simple as pie!

My main reason for giving this product 3 stars is for the overall cost to feed a cat long term on this prepared organic stuff. I dont want people who are thinking about switching their cats to a raw food diet to be discouraged, since raw food is the best diet for a cat. I want to present options ... as i showed above it can be done much more affordably using ground meat and powdered supplements. If you can afford to go organic, farm raised, etc., for your cat that is even better but not neccessary to improve the cats health.

Matter of fact if cost is that big an issue simply giving your cat properly supplemented raw food a few times per week instead of 100% dry food will drastically improve their health and save them from common cat ailments while not pinching the pocketbook.

Remember Cats are not vegetarians, Just like Lions and Tigers they are "obligate carnivores" ... they need quality meat for optimal health.

My cat usually doesn't touch wet food. I've tried several brands, and she always ignores it, and demands dry food. I ordered Natural Balance Ultra canned, thinking I would give it a shot since she loves the brand's dry food and she likes chicken flavor. She gobbled it all up quickly! She's been eating this for almost two months now and every time I open the drawer that I store it in, she runs to the kitchen and purrs.

They like eating it maybe twice a week. 100% Completed and Balanced Nutrition with all kinds of Vitamins, Nutrients and Minerals all supposed to be Good for Cats. I can get several Meals out of each Can of Food, my Cats are a little Finicky so I have to try different Flavors and Brands all the time, they don't eat a lot at one time they are Nibblers and they prefer to eat many little Meals. I have tried other more expensive Cat Foods from popular Specialty Pet Shops or other Food Boutiques for Pets, however, they don't want any of that, they Crave and like 9 Lives. I am Glad there are such Diversity of Flavors to make my Cats Happy and to choose from. I even Feed 9 Lives to several Cats outside and they Love It! ...Thank You D.D.

I got my kittens from two different breeders both of whom were feeding RC Babycat and various other RC formulas for their sires and queens. I transitioned my kittens from Babycat to Kitten 36 very easily. Currently, they are close to one year old and I've gone ahead and begun the two way equal mix of RC Kitten 36 and RC Adult 27 for transitioning. So far, my experience with the 3 RC formulas have been excellent. I have an issue with the Adult formula kibble size but that's another review for another time.

My kittens love the taste of Kitten 36. We free feed dry by choice and my kittens love to munch on this kibble! Price is outrageous, but I pay it. One of the large box pet stores (5 letters in the name) has a very good customer program. After I signed up and told the system what kind of cat food I buy, I began getting coupons for RC cat food. Up to $3 off a bag, buy 4 cans get 1 free, etc. I'm taking one star off for price.

From my vet I learned RC caters to breeders with 'breed specific' formulas and just about every other targeted need from nuts to bolts. I don't know if breeders are getting kick backs or not. I'm embarrased to ask those breeders I know but really, I have no complaints. I believe RC spends alot of money on R&D and are truly interested in the health of our cats. Having said this, from my readings and poking around in the cat food world, there are other dry foods I might be interested in introducing. I plan on doing that using the new kibble as a treat rather than a meal.

I cannot say how much I love these bowls + the stand! And for so cheap too! I fell in love with them but I live in Canada and it only ships within the continental US, so I had to send it to my friend who then sent it to me. I only have one cat and the size of these bowls are perfect! My roommate's cat sneaks into my room to eat from these bowls all the time too, so I think the size of these bowls is still appropriate for 2 cats. Up to 3 and it's probably too small.

I have a rescue cat that came from a shelter and from the moment I picked him up he had the most foul smelling gas and stool. He had a mud butt literally 24 hours a day. I tried everything....metronidazole, Fortiflora, other brands of probiotics, kaolin/pectin, prescription food, anti-gas products, anti-odor supplements, grain free....and nothing helped. I just started to think this is just how he is going to be from now on. I had another cat sick with diarrhea so I stopped at Hollywood Feed to see if they had anything better for diarrhea than the kaolin/pectin stuff I had. An employee recommended this. Out of desperation, I decided to give it a shot. I started giving it to all of my kitties since it sounded like it would be good for all of them regardless. And to my amazement, a couple of days after starting it I realized that Barney's butt wasn't stinking like it usually did. And the litter box was not knocking me out. And no checking my shoes only to find out he had pooted yet again. I mean, there has been a tremendous difference. The only thing different is that I started giving him this. A day or two later I added PetAlive Flatulence Preventer for Bloating, Gas, Cramps in Pets (granules) so it could be a combination of both but I had already noticed a difference before giving him the PetAlive product but went ahead and gave it to him anyway to be on the safe side. I think his gut got messed up somewhere along the way and it was never balanced out. I will continue to give this and we will see if it continues.

Another plus is that the product comes in individual packets so it stays fresh. Probiotics are pretty much worthless if not kept fresh. This does not have to be refrigerated either.

One thing to note....my cats do not like the taste. If I put it on their food then they will not eat it. So, I have to mix it with water and syringe it in their mouth. They don't seem to mind too much so it must not taste too yucky. Just not something they want mixed with their regular food. It also does not seem to take an entire packet to work either. I have been dividing the dose between my 3 cats and it appears to be working great. Only other drawback is the price. This is much more expensive than human grade probiotics with similar ingredients and we all know they are much more expensive to make because of the requirements for human supplements. I wish pet food and product manufacturers would stop raking people over the coals with what they charge. BUT this product is cheaper on Amazon than it was at Hollywood Feed. It was $32 plus tax there. Currently on Amazon it is under $30 with no tax and free shipping.

Anyway, so far, this seems to be a product I can highly recommend.

My 1 year old Siberian cat, Mimic, loves this stuff. He would prefer to eat only the dry Taste of the Wild for ever and ever. But I do worry about his urinary health, so I supplement with some wet food every day. He used to be on Merrick wet, but when my local store started carrying the Taste of the Wild wet, I gave it a try, and now it's the only wet food he'll eat.

I don't know what kind of addictive substance they put in the food (my guess is it's the sweet potato, which is kind of an unusual cat food ingredient), but he loves it. I also know that his breeder uses it now, as do a few of my friends. And all of the cats seem to love the stuff.

If you can find the canned, try it. It smells similar, so I'd bet that any cat who likes the dry would like the wet. It is a kind of chunky food in gravy, where the chunks are like tiny pieces of meatloaf.

Ultimately, I have not found a better balance of price, quality of ingredients, and palatability for Mimic.

As a dog owner, I try to do the best for my dog. My mother is a veterinarian technician and strongly recommend that I take good care of my dog's teeth. Based on her job, she had plenty of stories about dogs with terrible teeth and told me that I should either feed my dog an oral care food or brush her (my dog's) teeth daily. Knowing that I wouldn't want to brush my teeth and that my dog wasn't going to like it, I opted for the oral care science diet. My mother recommends the Hills Prescription Diet TD (prescription oral care), but said that the oral care is also acceptable since it is available without a prescription. I have been feeding this to my dog for 3 years (since she was a puppy) and her teeth are very clean and white. I rest happily knowing that I won't be dealing with a vet recommending that I pay a huge amount of money to rip out teeth or put my dog under to get a teeth cleaning (these procedures can run into the thousands of dollars in some severe cases). Over all, the food is more expensive than other foods, but the benefit of knowing that my dog's teeth are well cared for is worth it to me because I know how expensive the alternative can be. Another added bonusmy dog likes this food!

I have tried going back and forth between cat foods for my kitten, who is almost 1 year old and close to switching to adult food. All around, this is the best one I've tried. I mix it with a wet food to make it a little more easily digestible, but even with this, my cat won't eat a lot of other brands, even the more expensive ones. I guess she's a picky eater. She always chows down on Purina, though, and I also don't have any problems with extreme litter box smells, as I did when experimenting with one other brand. Yikes!
