My dog FREAKS out over thunderstorms, and living in Iowawe get a lot of spring and summer storms. She shakes, pants, digs, climbs on my bedand there is no calming her down. She shakes so hard that I worry she will have a heart attack. We have literally tried EVERYTHING! From the thunder shirt to all the drugs from the vet to melatonin... everything. Then late one night I was up with her during a storm (she doesn't let me sleep when she is freaking out) and I was looking up more remedies. I came across Rescue Remedy and ordered it, expecting it to be another failed attempt but worth a shot. I can not explain the joy I felt when it worked! It works fast, and keeps her calm but still alert. (Some things the vet gave up literally made her knock out and act drugged for a good 24 hours).
The awesome thing about this, is that since it calms her down but keeps her "alert" she has begun to build up an immunity to storms. She used to freak out at the smallest thunder (sometimes not even audible to me yet, being so far away)....now she is fine with mild thunderstorms and often sleeps right through them without any Rescue Remedy.
This morning as a thunderstorm started she woke me up, I gave her some RR and she went back to sleep... it is still thundering and she is off somewhere sleeping.
The bottle seems small at first but our first bottle has lasted 3-4 months and we just order 3 more bottles to prepare for spring/summer storms.
